About the Artist

Mary Ackerman

Creating Atmospheric Landscapes, Seascapes, & Skyscapes

Mary is a Wisconsin native currently living in Port Washington, WI. After retiring from a full-time career outside of the arts, she now focuses her time on creative pursuits. Working with oils, oil & cold wax, acrylics, and mixed media, her paintings are abstract interpretations of the land, sea, and sky. These atmospheric compositions emerge intuitively throughout the process without a specific end in mind. Responding to color and texture, depth is created by building many layers of paint combined with the use of a variety of tools for expressive mark making. These colorful and complex artworks are her visual interpretation of her natural surroundings.

While primarily self-taught, Mary has studied with professional painters and attended workshops throughout the country. Her artwork has been shown in juried exhibits, private collections, and representative galleries in the Midwest.

Additionally, Mary creates “Artwear” fabricating Japanese style shibori dyed scarves, felted and knit neckwear.
